Common Tankless Water Heater Problems We Repair

Tankless water heaters are more sophisticated than traditional tanks, and the failures are different.

The most common tankless issue in Las Vegas is scale buildup inside the heat exchanger from our hard water, which restricts flow, triggers error codes, and shortens unit lifespan.

Other frequent problems include flame rod failures, ignition issues, flow sensor faults, condensate drain blockages, air filter clogs, gas supply problems, and venting failures.

Each brand displays specific error codes — Navien's E003, E012, and E038, Rinnai's code 11, 12, and 14, Noritz codes and Rheem codes — and proper diagnosis requires knowing what each code actually means and which component needs attention.

If you have no hot water, an error code on your display, or any other tankless water heater issue, tankless water heater repair from Royalty Plumbing gets it fixed today. Contact us for same-day service and upfront flat-rate pricing.

Signs You Need Tankless Water Heater Repair in Las Vegas

  • No Hot Water — often caused by a failed flame sensor, ignition failure, or a clogged inlet water filter
  • Fluctuating Temperatures — known as the "cold water sandwich," this happens when flow sensors fail, or the heat exchanger is scaled up with Las Vegas hard water
  • Error Codes on Display — modern units flash codes indicating specific problems (e.g., Navien Error E033 or Rinnai Error 11). We know how to read and resolve these instantly
  • Unit Shuts Off During Use — usually a venting issue, a blocked exhaust, or a malfunctioning fan motor causing the system to overheat and shut down for safety
  • Water Leaking from the Unit — can stem from a cracked heat exchanger, a blown pressure relief valve, or loose internal connections
  • We diagnose all of it in one visit and provide upfront flat-rate pricing

💡 Las Vegas Homeowner Tip: Las Vegas hard water is one of the toughest environments on tankless water heaters in the country — heavy scale inside tankless heat exchangers is the reason most units fail years before their rated lifespan. Proper diagnosis, repair, and descaling by a plumber who understands Nevada water conditions can add years to a heater's life.

What Does Tankless Water Heater Repair Cost in Las Vegas?

Before reviewing pricing, the most important thing to understand is how Royalty Plumbing handles tankless repair service, because our policy is different from most plumbers and knowing it upfront saves everyone time.

Neutralizer Service: $125 - $185

The neutralizer is a component in certain tankless water heater systems that manages the pH of condensate discharge. In Las Vegas, where hard water accelerates mineral activity throughout the system, keeping this component in good working order protects the unit and the drain connections it discharges into.

If your unit uses a neutralizer cartridge and the pebbles are depleted, a refill at $125 restores the component without replacing the full assembly. If the housing itself needs replacement, the full kit service at $185 covers parts and labor. We assess which applies during the diagnostic visit and confirm the cost before proceeding.

Tankless Valve Kit: $475

Includes plumber supplied kit, new supply line, and full reconnection.

This service covers the complete valve kit supplied and installed by our plumber, a new supply line, and full reconnection of the tankless unit. Tankless service valves allow the unit to be properly isolated during descaling and maintenance.

In Las Vegas, valves on units that have never been serviced or that have been exposed to years of hard water buildup are prone to seizing or failing when operated. If your valves are compromised, this kit restores full serviceability to the unit and is required before a flush or descaling service can be safely performed.

What to Know Before You Book

Part replacement does not guarantee the unit will fire. Replacing a component resolves the diagnosed failure. Royalty Plumbing cannot guarantee the tankless unit will fire successfully after part replacement or that all functions will perform normally after service. Water heaters are mechanical systems. A repair addresses the specific identified failure, not every potential future issue. The owner is responsible for payment in full regardless of outcome after the repair is performed.

If a replaced part fails and you choose full replacement: Should a repaired component fail after service and you decide to move forward with a new tankless installation, your $125 diagnostic fee will be credited toward a new install only, not toward a warranty replacement. This credit applies to new installations through Royalty Plumbing exclusively.

Other factors may affect your repair cost. The pricing above covers the most common tankless repair services we perform. If your situation involves additional components, access challenges, or conditions not listed here, call us at (702) 908-0953 for an accurate estimate before scheduling.

"The bathroom sink started to leak underneath. I tried everything that I know how to do to fix it, to no avail. I called Royalty Plumbing and they were able to have technician here the next day. It was a simple fix but unless you have that knowledge, you just wouldn’t know how to do it. The price was good, and the service man was friendly and quick! No mess left behind! This sink was installed about a year ago by another “plumber,” who didn’t do a very good job."

Frequently Asked Questions About Tankless Water Heater Repair in Las Vegas

Expert answers to help you make informed decisions

Tankless water heater repair pricing depends on the brand, the failing component, and whether the unit needs simple descaling or internal component replacement. Royalty Plumbing provides flat-rate upfront pricing after diagnosis, and the diagnostic fee is waived when you approve the repair. Descaling services cost less than ignition or heat exchanger repairs.
Most tankless repairs in Las Vegas take one to three hours once the error code is diagnosed. Descaling a heat exchanger takes about 60 to 90 minutes. Component replacements like flame rods, ignitors, or flow sensors are typically same-day fixes. Repairs requiring special-order parts may take an additional day.
Navien E003 indicates ignition failure — usually a faulty flame rod, ignitor, or gas supply issue. E012 signals a flame loss during operation, commonly caused by a dirty flame rod, gas pressure problem, or venting obstruction. Royalty Plumbing diagnoses both codes and repairs the underlying cause during the same visit when parts are available.
No hot water from a tankless unit is usually caused by an ignition failure, clogged inlet filter, low gas pressure, failed flow sensor, or heavy scale inside the heat exchanger. Each has a distinct error code. A licensed plumber familiar with the brand can diagnose the exact cause in under an hour.
A tankless unit that shuts off mid-use typically has a scale-clogged heat exchanger, a dirty flame rod, a venting or combustion air problem, or a flow rate below the minimum activation threshold. Las Vegas hard water scale is the most common cause and is resolved with professional descaling.
Yes. Las Vegas has some of the hardest water in the country, and tankless heat exchangers accumulate scale rapidly. Annual descaling is recommended to maintain efficiency, prevent error codes, and protect the manufacturer warranty. Without descaling, most tankless units fail years before their rated lifespan.
Tankless water heaters in Las Vegas should be flushed and descaled at least once a year. Homes with very hard water or high usage may benefit from flushing every 6 to 9 months. Royalty Plumbing offers standalone tankless flushing service or as part of a repair visit.
Tankless water heaters 10 or more years old with a major component failure — like a cracked heat exchanger — are often better replaced than repaired. Younger units with ignition, flame rod, or flow sensor issues are almost always worth repairing. Royalty Plumbing gives honest repair-versus-replace guidance based on unit age and repair cost.
Yes, in most cases. Royalty Plumbing stocks common Navien repair parts on our service trucks, and same-day repairs are typical for our most-serviced brands. Repairs on less common brands may require ordering parts, which can add one day to the timeline.
Only repairs performed by unlicensed plumbers or with non-approved parts void most tankless manufacturer warranties. Repairs performed by a licensed plumber using OEM parts maintain the warranty. Royalty Plumbing is licensed and uses manufacturer-approved parts.
Royalty Plumbing repairs every major tankless brand sold in Las Vegas, including Navien, Rinnai, Noritz, Rheem, Bosch, Takagi, Eccotemp, and A.O. Smith. We specialize in Navien and stock common Navien parts on our service trucks for fastest same-day repair.
A leaking tankless unit is usually caused by loose water connections, a failed pressure relief valve, condensate drain blockage, or — in severe cases — a cracked heat exchanger from freezing or long-term scale damage. Water connection and pressure valve leaks are repairable. A cracked heat exchanger typically requires replacing the unit.
